Tetris Didn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
